Deciphers Latin
Even if you know all the grammar, you don't read Latin texts... you decipher them. You need to analyze almost every sentence, and often translate it in your head, in order to understand. You're lost without a dictionary! Even thinking about speaking Latin seems completely off-limits. Time required to get through a 10-line text: usually more than one hour.
Understands Latin
You understand simple Latin input almost on the fly. You can deal with some "real texts", but you feel there's a whole other level of fluency for you to unlock. When you engage in conversations, you're hindered by the fear of mistakes, and although you know many words, it takes a long time to find them in your memory. Now, let me tell you a story… my story.
Reading Renaissance manuscripts while researching for my Master’s thesis, 2017
Although I’m definitely not a perfect Latin speaker, I can say with confidence that I am a fluent Latin speaker, reader and writer.
I got to a point where I can pick any Latin text and understand most of what I’m reading at first sight.
I can talk about anything on the spot using complex Latin sentences, and, while I do make mistakes sometimes, I can always spot and correct them on a second thought.
Now, if you’re thinking that I must be born with some special gift for Latin, or that getting to this point of fluency was a natural result of the 17+ years I’ve spent studying and teaching Latin, or even that I got there without my conscious effort and research, on a journey made of trial and error, challenges, struggles, setbacks and endless questioning…
Well, I have to tell you that none of that is true.
I was awarded with the first prize in dozens of certamina during high school; I was admitted to the most selective Italian university, Scuola Normale of Pisa, where I got a master’s degree in Classics and Classical Philology…
I though this would make me a natural Latin speaker, and a fluent reader, but it didn’t. I’d been taught all the theory, but nothing about the real thing.
So if that didn’t make me fluent, what did?
Taking Latin for what it really was, a language, and starting to use it.
I’d attend spoken Latin gatherings and circles, engage in actual conversations, experiment on myself and, most of all, implement a daily routine made of practical, active exercises, and keep perfecting it over the years.
So I got where I am now because I’ve been struggling daily on my own route to Latin perfection for almost two decades, and I still do.
But there’s more to it…
During these years, I got to meet and make friends with some of the most respected Latin speakers in the world (I interviewed some of them in my podcast Rara avis).
And you know what I discovered?
That none of them is a natural, either, and they all started from zero. That all those rarae aves, all those successful, respected Latinists, have one thing in common…
They found the right resources, mastered those few exercises that make all the difference, and worked out a daily routine of active Latin practice they’ve been working on consistently for years.

So, this has been my own journey.
Along the way, I also learnt some ways to amplify the effort I put in, and following all these considerations I decided it was time to make my own experience and the ‘secrets’ of the rarae aves available for other Latin enthusiasts, too.
I wanted to create a course that could give you a direction and equip you with all those practical tools and exercises that, if done consistently over time, have the potential to make you reach the very top of the Latin coolness scale.
I took my personal recipe for success, tested on myself and my students, and I organized it into actionable steps, backed with science and improved by a constant listening to your feedback.

At the end of the week you’ll be able to use any verb form, pronounce any word correctly and know some useful resources to never doubt again.

There is no superior limit as to those who can benefit from (Y)PLC. If the most renowned Classics Professor (and even Cicero himself) were to take this course, they wouldn’t be losing their time. Not because I know more than them, but because the method I teach in the course is designed to empower your self-improvement and amplify your effort. (If you think about it, the best psychologists are always in therapy and top-level athletes are still trained by a coach.)
This course gives you all the tools and information you need to get to 100% as an independent learner. Just how close to it you get (and when) depends on a number of factors such as your time, motivation and language experience. If getting to a perfect mastery of the Latin language today is virtually impossible, it’s possible to reach very high levels of fluency and understanding of the language. (Y)PLC‘s structured as a 10 week intensive course. The core video trainings will take 25 hours to watch. You can binge watch them all at once, or (much better) pace yourself and tackle one module per week. Besides the video lessons, expect to work 30 minutes to 1.5 hours per day on your homework during the 10 weeks.
