Navigate the basics of the Latin language and set on your journey to proficiency, tasting literature from the very first step.
Take a second to imagine how COOL your life would be if you were able to…
Navigate the basics of the Latin language with confidence, joy and satisfaction.
Take the jump to unsimplified materials as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Attend spoken Latin conventicula without being afraid to speak.
Follow Latin content creators online and really understand what they’re saying.
Tell the etymology of most of the words in your own language.
Learn other romance languages (and not only) with surprising ease.
And, most of all…
Understand any Latin text without dictionary and almost on the spot.
However, what you’re feeling right now might look more like this:
đ„ You’ve been learning Latin for years, but when it comes to reading texts, you feel as though you were still a beginner…
đ„ You haven’t even started to learn Latin, and you’re already feeling overwhelmed with how much you’ll have to read before you become a fluent Latin reader.
đ„ It seems you keep hitting walls and getting stuck in plateaus.
đ„ You’d like to read more, but you can’t find any texts that are comprehensible for your level and compelling enough to keep you reading.
đ„ You’re struggling with memorizing vocabulary, conjugations and declensions.
đ„ When you try to read texts or speak Latin, you translate in your head and feel you can’t do it without a dictionary.
đ„ You’d like to find other people to practice Latin, but you don’t know where to find them.
Becoming FLUENT in Latin might look like a distant, sometimes utopian goal… until you find the right method.
Salve! I’m Irene, and I’m a Latin teacher. I’ve helped more than 500 students reach fluency thanks to my unique teaching method inspired by the Natural Method, Comprehensible Input and some of the best teachers in the world. I can help you, too, to move from đ„ to đ, let me show how.
If your goal is to read texts and really become fluent in Latin, then there’s no escape…
You have to start from the TEXTS themselves.
You may be wondering if getting to a point where you’re able to open any Latin work and simply read it is even possible. I have my experience and those of 500+ students to prove you that it’s not only possible: it can also be easy, satisfactory and enjoyable from the very beginning.
What’s the SECRET?
From day 1, my students are trained to think in Latin. They get used to the flow of the Latin sentence, learn tons of new words almost seamlessly and are exposed to ‘real’ literary texts from the beginning, thus developing a strong gut feeling.
How do I do this?
I’ve been studying and teaching Latin, both online and offline, for nearly 15 years. At some point, I decided to combine my own experience and pedagogical research with the best beginner textbook ever written, Familia Romana by Hans H. Ărberg (aka LLPSI). That’s how I created Gustatio linguae Latinae, a video course that allows beginners to navigate the basics of the Latin language while tasting literature from the very first lesson. Keep reading! đ
You have made all the difference in my learning proccess, so I must say âgratias tibi agoâ! You are the only one who really knows how to teach beginners like me. So, again, congratulations for the right choice in your life, which is being a teacher.
Leander (Brazil)
Your lessons have been a tremendous help to me. I am understanding the Latin better than ever before, and you have revolutionized my teaching. Thank you. Finally my students are showing the sorts of success I have been struggling to achieve.

GUSTATIO LINGUAE LATINAE
A beginners’ course to learn Latin, read authentic literature and discover the Roman culture
Gustatio linguae Latinae is a video course in 35 chapters, 100% in spoken Latin. The language I use in the video lessons adapts to your improving level, and by the end of the course you’ll know:
Gustatio linguae Latinae follows a proven method and leads you through a carefully laid and meticulously structured path, so that you can focus only on learning Latin, instead of spending your time and energies figuring out how to learn it. The course is structured around 35 steps, corresponding to the 35 chapters in Familia Romana. Each step includes: 4 core lessons (capitulum, mores, lectio, grammatica) divided in video lessons shorter than 20 minutes and engaging pre-reading and post-reading activities offering a variety of communicative exercises, scaffolding and challenges that will keep you on track during your journey. Let’s have a closer look:
You’ll assess your current skills, learn how to foster your own motivation and lay the foundations you need to make the most of this journey.
With these 35 video lessons (divided in 20 minute sub-lessons) you’ll go through the 35 chapters of Ărberg’s Familia Romana as if you were in a real classroom environment. You won’t just read the book: you’ll focus on the right things with my comments and explanations, and stay always engaged thanks to the frequent questions. All in a language that adapts to your level and grows comfortably as you grow.
To complement the pensa built into Familia Romana, you’ll find a variety of pre- and post-reading activities that prepare you for the reading and engage you in an active use of Latin as a language. The exercises are inspired by the communicative approach and include fun everyday scenes, shrinking summaries, listening exercises and all sort of stimulating activities.
35 short video lessons (approximately 10 minutes each) you can watch after each chapter, with tables, schemes and tools to make sure that all the new grammar rules presented in the chapter are made explicit and your doubts clarified. All the main aspects of the Latin grammar are covered.
35 short video lessons (10 to 15 minutes each), offering an insight of Roman life and society through literature and art. You’ll discover the origin of the Latin alphabet, how Romans would dress, eat, study, and how they’d represent the world; what they thought about Greeks, how they viewed the first Christians, and more.
Once you’ve completed the course, youâll be able to request your well-deserved Certificate of Completion for Gustatio linguae Latinae â you can hang it on your wall to remind yourself of how far youâve come, and to show off your new impressive skills to your friends!
Going through the entire LLPSI with private lessons would cost you around 3,500âŹ.
With group classes, the cost would still be about 1,200âŹ.
But because Gustatio linguae Latinae is a fully online program, I’m able to offer you a much more accessible price â and you’re getting so much more than just LLPSI, and the added value of getting lifetime access to the entire course and all future updates…

I followed âFamilia Romanaâ during a whole year in a course. Then I registered in âGustatio linguae Latinaeâ (I'm on chapter XXXI, almost finishing). Irene's chapter readings and comments plus all the supplmentary materials is the best method you can find to learn Latin.
José (Spain)
This course helped me to navigate the language basics without becoming frustrated. I now feel confident about moving on with a more advanced understanding of the Latin language. I am 200% satisfied with her dedication and support.
Ignacio (Venezuela)
Irene, your videocourse is brilliant. I love the explanations of the readings, and the grammar is much clearer than in the book. I am enjoying Latin very much, Iâm on Chapter XXVII and my reading has improved greatly!
Patrick (Brazil)
I am currently at chapter 9, but it is great to be a part of a group with people who has the same interest. I thank you for your effort to help us all.
Peter Georg (Denmark)
I started the first lessons and must say you did a great job! Compared with usual methods spoken Latin and teaching in Latin is a completely different and exciting approach.
Uwe (Germany)
Magistra Irene, tibi velim dicere quam multum cursus et pelliculae tuae me placeant. Nunc capitulum XII incipio et linguam Latinam multo melius intelligo quam ante. "Mores" et "Lectiones" lepidissimae et utilissimae sunt. Condiscipuli benigni et benevoli sunt omnes et hoc est quia tu magistra ita agis. Gratias tibi!

I know this course will give you exactly what you need to navigate the basics of the Latin language with confidence and joy.
But the only real way to make an informed decision is from the inside â thatâs why I give you the chance to try it completely risk-free.
If you feel that Gustatio linguae Latinae isnât the right fit for you, you can request a full refund within 15 days of purchase. No questions asked, no hard feelings.
This course is on-demand, so you can proceed through it at your own speed and start when it is convenient for you.
GLL only opens one or two times a year so I can give the students all the attention they deserve. Once the doors close, you won’t be able to enroll until the next opening of the program, when the price of the program will most definitely go up.
Immediately after the payment, you receive an email containing your username and a password to enter the platform, so you can start learning right away. You also receive a welcome email, with all the information you need to have a jump start into Gustatio linguae Latinae.
Yes, you find all the alternative payment methods in this page.
Unless you’re already at a really advanced level (you can read and understand authentic texts and you know all the grammar), you can still learn a lot from this course, especially if you studied as an autodidact and/or using another method, or if you want to start speaking Latin.
Yes, and you’ll be in good company, as most of my students aren’t really starting from scratch. Although the lessons based on the book are the core of my program, they represent only about 1/4 of Gustatio linguae Latinae. There are lots of additional materials you can’t find in the book (grammar lessons, lessons about Roman culture, 3-graded readings and additional exercises). Moreover, you’ll notice that going through the same chapters with me as a teacher will make you observe many things you hadn’t noticed studying by yourself (or with other teachers).
Yes, if you’re willing to explore new pedagogical approaches, improve your spoken Latin or get used to teach with Familia Romana. Many of my students are actually Latin teachers!
Yes, absolutely, and even if you are a complete beginner! Both Familia Romana and my material are designed in a progressive, gradual way, so that you can understand what you’re reading from day one. In the video lessons, I adapt my Latin to your level at every stage of the course: 90% of the words I use will be already known to you, and the other 10% is what stimulates your learning progress. Any new word I introduce will be easily understandable thanks to pictures, gestures or context.
If you’re considering to enroll in GLL, but find that my free materials are too advanced for you, I don’t want you to be put off from learning Latin. My lessons are actually targeting “upper beginners”, so if you are an absolute beginner (or nearly) it’s quite normal that you find them a bit too difficult for you.
Here on my YouTube channel you can watch me teaching through the first chapter of Familia Romana. This lesson is almost identical to the first lesson you’d find in my beginner course, so if you see you can follow it without too much effort, then you probably won’t have any problems with my course, too.
Gustatio linguae Latinae is a video course, and you’ll have access to the material at any time. So, it’s up to you to find the pace that suits you best! I personally recommend not going through more than one chapter/step a week, so it takes a minimum of 9 months to go through the whole course. Many students have completed the course in one year, for some others it takes more…
Although I show the book pages while I read through it in the video lessons, I recommend to buy the paper version, so you can take notes, re-read at any time and fill in the pensa (exercices) by hand. The book (Hans Ărberg, Lingua Latina per se illustrata. Pars I, Familia Romana) can be purchased online for around 22âŹ, and I’ll tell you where you can find it.
You’ll have unlimited access to the course as long as I continue to offer it (that is, virtually forever) + you’ll get automatic access to the new features of GLL 2.0 once they are released, without having to pay any more.
Yes, I release a certificate of completion to all the students upon request.
